Jan 28, 2021 Jason Mercier boasts a resume that could very well land him in the Poker Hall of Fame someday. Mercier’s poker accomplishments include five World Series of Poker bracelets and 34 tournament cashes of six figures or better.
Key Findings:
1. Democrats hold the majority in both houses, House: 57 Democrats, 41 Republicans; Senate: 29 Democrats, 20 Republicans.
2. For the first time, citizens can participate in all public hearings remotely, using online video conferencing or by phone.
3. The state budget is balanced, state spending for 2021-23 is expected to exceed $54 billion, the highest level ever.

4. State revenue is expected to rise by over 7% (current inflation is less than 2%).
5. Washington’s current tax structure is relatively stable, based on the three main sources of sales taxes, business taxes, and property taxes.
6. Nine major tax increases have been proposed, including a Seattle-style employer tax, a higher state death tax, and a 9% income tax on capital gains.
7. A state income tax is highly unpopular. Over the years, voters have rejected a state income tax ten times.

8. In March 2020, Governor Inslee ordered the shut-down of businesses, public events, and social activities he deemed non-essential, and the closure of all schools. Lawmakers are considering bills to limit the governor’s emergency powers to 30 days unless extended by approval of the legislature.
